For some men, being on guard doesn't feel unusual—it feels normal. You may find yourself constantly preparing for what could go wrong, replaying conversations in your mind, anticipating rejection, keeping people at a distance, or always looking for the nearest exit. Even in moments of safety, your mind and body may struggle to believe the danger has truly passed. Living this way can be exhausting, but for many survivors it was once a necessary way to make it through. Healing begins as your nervous system gradually learns that not every moment requires protection.
