When you're angry, what emotion do you think might be hiding underneath it?

Anger is often the emotion people see. It isn't always the emotion we're actually feeling. Sometimes beneath the anger is fear of being rejected, the sting of shame, deep hurt from feeling dismissed, grief over another loss, or the helplessness of believing no one truly understands. For many survivors, anger became the safest emotion to express because the more vulnerable feelings underneath never felt safe enough to show. Learning to recognize what lies beneath the anger is an important step toward healing.
