What does healing look like to you today?

Sometimes healing is quiet. Sometimes it's messy. Sometimes it's simply choosing to keep going, even when the path feels uncertain.
Other days it may look like setting a boundary, asking for help, telling the truth about your story, forgiving yourself for a setback, or allowing yourself to rest without guilt. Healing rarely follows a straight line, and it doesn't ask you to compare your journey with anyone else's.
For a male survivor, healing may show up in places other people would never recognize. It might be saying, "That hurt me," instead of pretending it didn't. Letting someone comfort you instead of automatically saying, "I'm fine." Staying present during a difficult conversation instead of shutting down or walking away. Saying no without feeling obligated to explain yourself. Or allowing yourself to enjoy something good without waiting for something bad to happen next.
Sometimes healing is discovering that you have choices now that you didn't have when you were a boy. You can decide who gets access to you. You can decide what happens with your body. You can speak when something doesn't feel right. You can leave situations that aren't healthy. You can ask for what you need. You can build relationships where your boundaries, feelings, and voice matter.
And there may still be days when an old trigger catches you off guard. Days when shame returns, anger comes quickly, or you find yourself slipping into a familiar way of protecting yourself. That doesn't erase the healing that's already happened. Sometimes healing is simply recognizing the pattern sooner and realizing, I don't have to stay here.
There may also come a point when healing starts becoming less about what happened to you and more about what you're creating for yourself now. Friendship. Intimacy. Purpose. Laughter. Faith. Success. Rest. Adventure. Maybe even dreams you once stopped allowing yourself to have.
It isn't about becoming a perfect version of yourself.
It's about becoming more fully yourself—reclaiming the parts of you that trauma, shame, and fear may have convinced you were gone.
So don't only ask yourself how much healing you have left to do.
Take a moment and ask:
What does healing already look like in my life today?
