For me, it's the fear that if someone really knew everything about me, they would eventually leave. I've become really good at showing people the parts of me that seem acceptable. I'm dependable, I work hard, I help people, and most people think they know me. But they really only know the version of me I've carefully created. The parts of me that carry shame, fear, and hurt stay hidden. I've worn that mask for so long that sometimes I'm not even sure who I am without it.
